I remember the terrifying and hopeful early stage of seeking publication for my creative writing. It’s not as vulnerable as it once was and I’ve become more realistic in my expectations. But I can still be a mess, just less of a mess.
Over the years, I’ve learned more about the industry, which has helped moderate my hopefulness. I’ve also developed strategies to keep going and accept the moments when things seem to stall.For most writers, publication is one of the goals. It’s rewarding, fulfilling, and enables a conversation with readers. For the first time, I’m offering a course to writers who are ready to publish their work or in the early days of doing so. I’m excited to support this process and celebrate the written word.
In this three-session seminar beginning October 8th, writers will work with me and other participants to polish their work, learn how to find a suitable publication, and get encouragement and knowledge to go boldly forth. This seminar is for those with a substantially completed piece. Each two-hour class is half tutorial and half workshop. We’ll look at aspects of organizing, plot, beginnings, conclusions, and style. Participants will get direction on publishing research, submission protocols, and how to keep cool during the submission process so they can experience the joy of publication.
